If you are intelligent then you are more likely to be lazy.A theory that states brainy people spend more of their time lazing around than their active peers have now been proven by a new research.
Findings of the study supported the idea that people with high IQ does not get boared easily, resulting in more time spent engaged in thoughts. While active people require to stimulate their minds with external activiteis, thus they become more physical either to get rid of their thoughts or because they tend to get bored pretty quickly.
Researchers frm the Florida Gulf Coast University - led by Todd McElroy, gave a group of students a classic test that dates back to three decades. The 'need for cognition' questionairre, asked the particiants to rate how strongly they agreed with several statements such as really enjoy a task that involves coming up with new solutions to problems", and "I only think as hard as I have to."
After examining the results of each questionnaire, the researchers selcted two groups from the participants that consisted of 30 'thinkers' and 30 'non-thinkers'. For the next seven days, both groups were required to wear a device on their wrist that tracked their movments and activity levels, constantly providing a stream of data on their physical activeness.
After seven days, results indicated that the group of 30 thinkers were far less active than the group of 30 non-thinkers during the week. However there was no different between both groups during the weekends, which has not been able to be explained.
According to the researchers, the finds could support the idea that non-thinkers get bored easily, therefore they need their time to be filled with physical activity. McElroy warned that the downside to being more intelligent but lazier was the negative impact of a sedantary lifestyle.
He recommended that people are less active regardless of how clever they are, must aim to increase their overall activity levels in order to imrpove their health.
