Sandalwood is a renowned ingredient used in skin care routines. It is one of the best organic element that you can find, in it's entirety or mixed in various forms.

Originating from a tree, Sandalwood is a form of wood that is fine-grained, heavy, and a yellow-ish colour, giving out an extraordinary fragrance that can be retained for decades. Widely known as 'Chandan' in India, Sandalwood is considered a sacred tree in the country, and are also found in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Australia, Hawaii, and other pacific Islands.

Sandalwood creates a type of essential oil that is obtained from the steam distillation of the heartwood after cutting it into chips and billets of different species of the trees. It has a woody-floral scent and is often used in perfumes, cosmetic products, and even as a mild food flavouring. The sandalwood oil is a popular ingredient in Ayurvedic medicine and for aromatherapy.

When crushed, Sandalwood creates a powder that is mainly used in skin care products due to it's antiseptic, anti inflammatory, astringente, and disinfectant properties. It is a natural healer of infections, rashes, allergic reactions, and assists in clearing up acne, blackheads, and other skin issues. Moreover, it inhibits the growth of bacteria because of the germicidal quality.

Nowadays, a large number of skin care products include sandalwood as a key ingredient. However, due to the amount of additives, it could become harmful for certain skin types. Therefore, it is best to use the most natural form of Sandalwood to get the best results. Including this natural ingredient in your daily skincare routine can certainly improve the condition of your skin and make it much healthier.
