Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives (FHAM) International Culinary Challenge and Exhibition 2017 concluded on Thursday, with over 530 participating exhibitors.
FHAM is the country's largest international fair held annually for the hospitality Industry. The exhibition serves as a platform where company's and individuals of the tourism sector can come together in one place. Participants include Professionals working in the hospitality industry such as, company owners, senior management, guest houses, resorts and hotel staffs, safari boat operators and owners, restaurants, along with others. The latest products, services, and innovations of the local and international exhibitors are showcased for the visitors throughout the event.
For the first time, a Maldives Barista Championship was held during the event, as well as a bed making competition, International Culinary Challenge, and a mocktail challenge. Workshops and industrial seminars took place throughout the three day exhibit, with the title of the most outstanding culinary organisation awarded to Hulhule' Island Hotel (HIH), at the seminar.
A new record was set for the culinary challenge segment as over 500 chefs and personnel from the purchasing departments of nearly all the resorts in Maldives, took part. The Remarkable Chef, Project Director, and honorary life member of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) - Alan Palmer served as the judge of the competition, along with a panel of internationally certified judges, global award winning chefs, and professionals of the culinary world.
The hospitality fair organised by Dhivehi Expo Services in collaboration with Chef's Guild of Lanka, and endorsed by Chef's Guild of Maldives, was inaugurated on the 8th of August by the Minister of Economic Affairs. During the exhibit, principal sponsor of the event - Lily International Pvt Ltd launched bottled Starbucks Coffee to the Maldives for the first time.
