Maldives' first integrated resort to be developed at Emboodhoo Lagoon

On the 30th of July, 'the official groundbreaking ceremony' was held to inaugurate the project of developing Maldives' first integrated resort.

One of the largest lagoons in Maldives, Emboodhoo Falhu 'Emboodhoo Lagoon' has been leased to the real estatement company Singha Estate Public Company Limited for a period of 50 years to develop the multi-island resort destination.

The project was inaugurated by Tourim Minister of Maldives Mr. Moosa Zameer, whilst attendees included Chaiman of Singha Estate Public Company Limited Mr. Chutinant Bhirombhakdi, Director and Chairmen of Executive Committee Mr. Chayanin Debhakam D.B.A, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Naris Cheyklin, and Mr. Thiti Thongbenjamas the Chief Investment Officer. In addition to that, top officials from Maldives was present at the ceremony as well.

“We are delighted to attend the official ceremony to mark the start of construction on this new world-class leisure development which is set to further enhance the Maldives’ international reputation as one of the world’s top tourist destinations.” said Mr. Moosa Zameer, who laid the foundation stone of the project.

The ceremony commences the USD 311.5 million phase one of the Emoodhoo Lagoon project which is expected to be complete by July 2018. The first phase consists of a three-island resort, with the main island serving as the township that offers world-class F&B, retail facilities, entertainment, recreation, and leisure experiences. The entire concept of the project includes development of nine-artificial islands on reclaimed land from the lagoon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Chutitant Bhirombhakdi said "Singha Estate sees a great opportunity in creating the company’s biggest and most exciting project to date in the Maldives. This is the first integrated resort being developed in the Maldives. This is a game-changing project that will elevate the Maldives’ position as one of the popular tourist destinations in the world,” 

“The overall development which, when fully completed, will ultimately extend across nine islands, has been conceived to meet the leisure-destination desires of the world’s large and rapidly-growing medium to upscale leisure segment.” he further added.

The aim of Singha Estate is to create sustainable value to all stakeholders whilst being committed to support the ecological environment, quality of living, and economic growth of Maldives

The project includes several partners such as; Hard Rock Hotels - world-class travel retailer,  Café Del Mar - world-famous beach club operator, Camper and Nicholson - Marina Management Specialists from U.K.

The project will features a total of 1,300 rooms, and create over 5,000 job opportunities. Whilst the first phase is set to complete next year, the second phase is expected to be complete within the next five years.
