Qatar Airways has commenced operations to the Maldives for the winter season with one of the most modern aircraft's in the world; the Airbus A350.
Becoming the first ever airline to deploy an A350 to a South Asian Country, the Qatar Airways flight landed at Velana International Airport on 31st October after a four hour and 45 minutes journey from Hamad International Airport at Doha. The inaugural A350-941 flight was piloted by Maldivian national Mohamed Anwar (Tholla).
Top officials of Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL), welcomed the captain and his crew, and the passengers onboard the Airbus A350 upon it's landing at Velana International Airport, during late afternoon of October 31st.
Speaking to reporters regarding A350 jet, an official of MACL stated that it is a huge boost to the tourism industry of Maldives, as no other country in South Asia has A350 operations.
Qatar Airways will be providing daily flights to and from Maldives on the 280 seater A350 Airbus, until the 31st of March, 2018.
Qatar Airways was the launch customer for the A350 which came to service on 15th January 2015. The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft with fuselage and wing structures made of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer, offering wider seats that are spacious, and features state-of-the-art technology. The airline currently has over 80 of the jet on order between A350-900 and A350-1000, and is the airline with the most number of A350;s on order from Airbus.
On 31st October, Flight QR 674 and QR 675 commenced its operation. While flights QR 672 / QR 673 will commence operation from 3rd November on wards for the route DOHA-MALE’-DOHA.
