Selena Gomez has been named Billboard's 2017 Woman of the Year. The 25 year old will be honoured at the annual Women and Music dinner and awards gala held by Billboard on the 30th of November, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles, California, USA.
The award-winning singer, actress, and now producer, will join a prestigious league of famous celebrities that have been honoured by Woman of the Year, including Madonna, (2016), Lady Gaga (2015) Taylor Swift (2014), Pink (2013), Katy Perry (2012), and Beyonce (2009).
“Not only is Selena soaring on the charts, but she continuously inspires young women everywhere to be authentic, give back and to not be afraid to use their voice,” said John Amato, president of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group. “She is never afraid to speak her mind and has used her platform to advocate for the needs of others. We are thrilled to be able to honor her as our Woman of the Year."
The singer has been nominated for four Billboard Music Awards, while of her album's have earned the top 10 spot of the Billboard 200, with albums Revival (2015) and Star Dance (2013), leading the chart.
In addition to her music, Selena Gomez is also executive-producer to the Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why, and an active ambassador for UNICEF since 2009. She has launched partnerships with brands such as Coach and Puma, raised over $500,000 for the Lupus Research Alliance, as well as various humanitarian endeavors.
In addition to honoring Woman of the Year, the prestigious event which will coincide the Billboard's Women in Music issue's publication, also recognizes powerful female executives in the music industry. And for the first time, the Women in Music event, along with a red-carpet pre-show will be broadcasted live on Twitter.
