'Depsacito' means 'slowly' in Spanish, but it sure did rise fast to the number one spot in Youtube, breaking the record and becoming the most watched Youtube video of all time with more than 3 billion views!
Youtube made the announcement earlier this month, stating the song by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee has surpassed the previous record holding song of Fate and the Furious soundtrack by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth 'See You Again.' The song that gained the top spot just last month after submerging 2012's 'Gangnam Style' by PSY , could not prove to be a match for the Spanish hit Despacito.
“Breaking the record for most-viewed video of all time is a massive achievement,” says Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music. “Huge congrats to Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee in reaching this milestone—it truly demonstrates the power of YouTube in providing artists a place to express their creativity and connect with fans across the globe.”
Putting the songs success into perspective, 'Despacito' managed in just seven months from it's release, what 'See You Again' was able to do within a period of two years! It has become widely popular in Mexico (with 385 million views) and country's where Spanish is not a first or even a second language such as; Italy (146 million views), Indonesia (41 million views), to Israel (18 million views). It has become the most-watched Youtube video of this year in over forty different country's.
“It is such a victory for the Latin world,” says Erika Ender, co-writer of the song, “The whole world is singing and dancing in Spanish. That is something really amazing.”
The record breaking video however does not include the popular remix by Justin Bieber. made in April.
