The world's most expensive football player of Manchester United has opened up about being a Muslim living in the city of Manchester after the Arena bombing. In an interview given to Esquire Magazine, the 24 year old muslim midfielder expressed his disbelief concering the tragedy, condemning the attacks which occured two days before Europa League Final, and ruled out the connection the attacks had with Islam.
“It’s a very difficult moment but you cannot give up,
We can’t let them get in our heads, we have to fight for it. Sad things happen in life but you cannot stop living." said Pogba.
On the 22nd of May, a suicide bomber identified as a British Muslim named Salman Abedi detonaed a bomb near the exit of Manchester Arena following a concert of the popular singer Ariana Grande. 22 people were killed in the explosion, whilst 250 people suffered various injuries and psychological trauma. It has been reported that the arena will be closed until September, and all concerts which were scheduled to be held will be moved to another venue and or cancelled.
“You cannot kill a human being. To kill a human being… it’s something crazy, so I don’t want to put religion on it. This is not Islam and everybody knows that. I won’t be the only one saying that,” said Pogba.
Pogba recently visited Mecca, the holiest city in the world to complete an Umrah during the beginning of Ramadan.
The french born muslim football player became the world's most expensive player with the highest football transfer fee after signing a five year contract with Manchester United on 8th of August 2016, for €105 million, with bonuses of €5 million.
